On the
south side of the altar, is this stone recording the death of Norreys
Bertie, and all round, particularly in front of the altar, and underneath,
are the gravestones of other members of his family.
The inscription
on this stone reads:
Here
lies the body of
Norreys Bertie Esq.
Lord of this Manor and (?)
Knight of the Shire
For the County of Oxford
Who at his own expence
Caused this church to be rebuilt and beautified
A.D. 1713
He was the only Son of James Bertie Esq.
Who was Brother of Robert Earl of Lindsey
And James Earl of Abingdon.
He died unmarried
Oct. 25th A.D. 1766
