Ledwell
means spring or stream called the loud one. By 1086 Ledwell was
known as Ledewelle.
To
travel by road to Ledwell, take the M40 and exit at Junction 10
(one hour and five minutes from London approx, 55 minutes from Birmingham
approx). Take the B430 to Middleton Stoney, turn right at the traffic
lights there on to the B4030. Carry straight on to Lower Heyford,
and turn left at the crossroads towards the railway station, still
on the B4030. When you reach the traffic lights at Hopcrofts Holt,
go straight across (there is a little dog-leg at the lights where
you jink to the right and then to the left, but it is effectively
straight across), and continue on the B4030. After approximately
two miles you will reach Middle Barton. Continue straight through,
still on the B4030, and almost immediately after leaving Middle
Barton look for signposts on the right to Sandford St Martin. Turn
right to Sandford St Martin (as you do this you are now driving
through Westcott Barton). Stay on the same road through Sandford
St Martin, and about a mile and a half beyond you will reach Ledwell.
